Yesterday the high court suspended the 2023 finance bill that president William Ruto had signed after activist Okiya Omutata went to court to oppose it.Omutata won the first round of the case.
In the finance bill the fuel taxes were increased from 8% to 16% which means that EPRA had to review the current prices of the fuel. They then did it yesterday after the finance bill had been suspended by the high court.
They ignored the court order and went ahead to hike the prices with petrol going up by more than 13 kshs diesel 12ksh and kerosene 11ksh. Petrol has now crossed the 195ksh mark something that is abit worrying.
Didmus Barasa Kimilili mp wondered why EPRA had to review the prices and yet the court had suspended the finance bill. They were supposed to wait for the outcome from the court before reviewing the fuel prices which are also affected by the finance bill.
