NUMBER OF THE WEEK

$58,390: Bitcoin price

From $71,570 on April 8, the price of Bitcoin has fallen to $58,390, a decline of 18.4 percent.

Macroeconomic factors, such as the US Federal Reserve’s “higher, longer longer” stance on interest rates, have also contributed to investors’ bearish outlook. When interest rates are expected to remain high, interest-bearing instruments gain, while non-interest-bearing instruments lose.

Investors should only enter Bitcoin with a longer-term horizon of four years or more. Furthermore, they should only expose a limited portion of their portfolio (approximately 5-10 percent, depending on their risk appetite) to this highly volatile asset class. Financial experts say you should invest only the portion of your wealth in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies that you can afford to lose.
