Kamukunji grounds is one the favourite place to hold political rallies because of its historical significance to the country’s History.
It has emerged that any politician who wishes to hold a political rally in the Kamukunji grounds will have to pay the county government of Nairobi Ksh 100,000 to be given the warranty to continue with any political gathering.
According to Charles Kerich who is the chair of the Nairobi County Finance Committee, the county has not been benefitting from rallies held in public spaces such as Jijavanjee Garden and Kamukunji grounds.
He disclosed that the county’s Finance Bill 2023 proposes charges on these grounds in a bid to help the county collect a revenue of Ksh 10 billion.
This comes amidst many rallies organized by Azimio leader in the Kamukunji rally. For instance, the opposition will hold a rally in Kamukunji tomorrow before kicking off the planned demonstrations in the city and across the country.
