Namwamba was particularly keen to emphasize the ultimate goal of this investment: to develop a strong sense of national identity, by engaging more people in sports and enhancing the visibility of Kenyan athletes and teams in international competitions.
The CS’s explanations seem to have placated the critical voices, with many now satisfied that their taxes are being put to good use. However, there has yet to be a comprehensive analysis of the effectiveness of this expenditure and if it will improve the state of sports and recreation.
Regardless, it is clear that there is a strong commitment to developing sports on the part of the Ministry of Sports and CS Ababu Namwamba. With the right focus and attention, there is no doubt that the money allocated to this initiative can be a catalyst for meaningful, positive change.
