“Speaker No Sufficient Grounds Would Cause My Resignation” CS Ababu Defends Position Amid Criticism

Amid mounting concerns regarding his performance, Youth Affairs and Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba has vehemently declared that he will not resign from his position. This announcement follows a session in the National Assembly where Namwamba was grilled over allegations of inadequacy in effectively managing the sports docket.

Addressing the National Assembly on Wednesday, Namwamba maintained that he has been actively steering the Ministry’s operations since taking office in October 2022. He acknowledged the initial challenges he encountered upon assuming the role, describing the state of the Sports docket as chaotic. However, he pointed out that he and his team have been making gradual strides to improve the department’s operations for the benefit of Kenyan athletes.

“I have not said at all that I am not in control of this Ministry. I am fully in touch and in control of this Ministry but I have made it clear that this is a public institution and it cannot be run as a one-man show. I share responsibilities with my two PSs and technical officers,” stated Namwamba during the session.

Addressing the accusations that he has not adequately fulfilled his responsibilities, Namwamba defended his record, asserting that his performance as the Youth and Sports CS has been noteworthy. He emphasized the progress achieved within his ten-month tenure, stressing that the Ministry’s state upon his arrival was dire.
