The county of Uasin Gishu has been on the spot after reports of alleged fraud case implicating the former county boss Jackson Mandago and some other officials. According to the information in public domain, the senator is accused to have swindled millions of funds from the local with promise of taking them to Finland and Canada for studies and jobs.
Several years down the line, the promises are yet to be fulfilled forcing the victims to demand for a refund of the money. The senator was arrested yesterday and was today presented before court where he was released on a KSH 500,000 bond and an asurity of KSH 2 million.
Even as investigations continue, today Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei met with the victims at the Senate where they narrated the odel they are going through after being swindled off their money. The tough talking senator later in the evening posted a message on his Twitter account where he said that the victims are indeed going through a hard times and they will do anything possible to being the culprits into the books.
“Today It was traumatic to listen to harrowing and painful stories with tears of victims and their parents alongside Uasin County MCAs of alleged defrauding by First choice recruitment consultancy Ltd at Uasin Gishu County assembly Chambers, Uasin Gishu County. Most Of the victims have gone into depression, become financially impoverished and has led to families breakdown BUT Senate Labour committee ASSURED the victims that justice shall be served.” Senator Samson Cherargei.
Yesterday, the president also spoke about the matter where he said that those who ate the money should be ready to carry their own cross. He however assured those affected that his administration will ensure that they get the scholarship and continue with their dreams .
