The Constitution of 2010 provides a potent check on executive abuse of power and the culture of impunity. President Uhuru learned some hard lessons as a result. President William Ruto will learn a hard lesson from this. He remarked, “Respecting the dictates of the Constitution is a joyful nationalistic act.”

The lawyer’s comments follow a verdict that invalidated 50 Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) appointments made by Ruto.

A three-judge panel reached the conclusion that the CAS positions’ formation was unconstitutional.

To having 50 CASs deputizing only 22 CSs is not what we believe the Constitution’s authors had in mind. As the High Court stated, “there can be no doubt that the appointment of the 50 CASs is unconstitutional.”72b2510da6074656aa34381876e7e941?quality=uhq&resize=720
