President William Ruto has responded to Azimio leader Raila Odinga’ s threats of resuming protests in September. Ruto is now stating that he is prepared to employ all possible means to thwart Mr. Odinga’ s plans of inciting violence. He has issued a stern warning that no further demonstrations will be allowed to take place within the country moving forward.
The Head of State has expressed his surprise at the opposition he faced when he rejected the idea of demonstrations. Critics opposed his decision, arguing that it would regress Kenya’ s progress.
In response, the Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, on Sunday, conveyed a message to President Ruto, urging him to desist from using intimidation tactics ahead of their discussions. He has revealed his intention to revive anti- government protests if the government does not cooperate in the talks.
Speaking from Nyamira, Raila emphasized the presence of rampant tribalism within all levels of the government. He expressed a strong desire to address this issue as a primary focus of the upcoming bipartisan discussions. Additionally, he dismissed the possibility of a potential reconciliation with the government, asserting that he cannot engage in a handshake with individuals he considers as ” thieves. “
The Azimio leader had previously noted that the country appears to be gradually slipping into a state of dictatorship. This observation stems from an ongoing impasse over measures proposed by President William Ruto’ s Kenya Kwanza administration, which have been perceived by some as excessively punitive.
In light of these developments, it is clear that the political landscape in Kenya is undergoing significant shifts, with tensions between the government and the opposition reaching a critical juncture. The forthcoming talks between the two sides hold the potential to either alleviate or exacerbate the existing friction, as they grapple with issues ranging from governance to tribalism.
