According to reports, President William Ruto is expected to attend a homecoming ceremony in Kanyipir village, Karachuonyo constituency, in the Nyanza region on Saturday before launching some projects. Ruto has been making efforts to work with leaders from across Kenya, regardless of political affiliation, tribe or region, as evidenced from his recent meeting with Orange Democratic Movement MPs from the region.

In addition, reports that Ruto has started a two-day tour of Nyanza, where he has pledged support for government programmes aimed at growing the economy of an area that has previously been marginalised. His tour has been seen as a political move to consolidate his power, expand support base and enhance his chances of re-election in 2027.

Opposition coalition, Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya, has planned to stage nationwide protests on July 12 to denounce the government’s failure to lower the cost of living. The coalition has also vowed to stage more protests on Wednesday next week. These protests are a continuation of previous demonstrations that have resulted in the arrest of over 300 people and the death of nine individuals. The government has banned these protests, and security personnel are expected to be deployed in urban centers across the country. Clashes between security forces and protesters are expected, and counter-protests cannot be ruled out. It is advised to avoid all protests and allow extra time to reach destinations near protest sites.ed905c3a50ab4f8da56b05467340aba0?quality=uhq&resize=720
