Even the closest allies of leader Azimio La Umoja Raila Odinga don’t believe what he says they’ve been duped in 2022, one revealed.
Raila claimed he won last August but was betrayed by President William Ruto as well as a section of IEBC commissioners led by former President Wafula Chebukati.
But MP Beatrice Elachi of Dagoretti North says most of Raila’s faction believes the former prime minister has lost and is simply continuing his rhetoric to win future seats.
He said he believes he really lost by teaming up with former President Uhuru Kenyatta at the end of his second term.
Raila’s Orange Democracy Movement (ODM) elected Azimio, the former Chairman of the Nairobi County, saying that Raila was wrong to support Uhuru. “Raila Odinga will always carry the ‘burden’ of supporting the former president at the end of his term. He added that it’s time for Raila to drop the issue and focus on other issues, including how Azimio will eventually get to the presidency in 2027.
Elachi warns that Ruto’s side is already preparing for 2027 and that Azimio will have to do the same or face another setback.
“The government is focused on how it will proceed until 2027 and Azimio should do that too,” he said, as Azimio is still embroiled in disputes with Kenya’s Kwanza company and is trying to open it up.
