President Ruto Nominates New Director of Public Prosecutions and Central Bank Chairman

President William Ruto has put forward the nomination of Renson Mulele Ingonga for the esteemed position of Director of Public Prosecutions. The announcement regarding Mulele’s nomination was made on Thursday through a communication to the House by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.

The President’s message, in accordance with Standing Order number 42, conveyed his selection of Renson Mulele Ingonga as the potential Director of Public Prosecutions. The communication outlined the President’s intention to seek the approval of the appointee from the House.

Mr. Mulele emerged as the President’s choice from a pool of 15 candidates who had been shortlisted by the Public Service Commission. His nomination marks a significant step towards potentially leading the country’s prosecution department.

The next phase in this process involves the vetting of Renson Mulele Ingonga by the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. This crucial assessment will help determine his suitability for the role. The Committee is mandated to furnish the House with a comprehensive report within a span of 21 days following the vetting exercise.

Notably, Renson Mulele previously held the position of Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions before being considered for this elevated role. If Mulele’s nomination secures approval from the National Assembly, he will step into the shoes of Noordin Haji, the former Director of Public Prosecutions. Noordin Haji vacated the position after being appointed as the Director-General of the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
