Rarieda member of parliament has urged the Civil society to ensure that they don’t miss out in the ongoing bipartisan talks. This, should it lead to constitutional review. At the moment, it is only politicians that have been represented in the talks. MP Otiende urges the politicians to pile pressure so as to be included in the talks.
He gives his reason, that the reason why civil society must participate when calls for constitutional changes are made is because politicians are likely to amend the constitution and make it worse. There are several proposals by the politicians including creation of the office of the opposition leader, there’s also integration of the prime cabinet Secretary’s position in law.
Otiende notes that the laxity by civil society and even the church to hold duty bearers accountable and criticize wrong administrative decision’s, was because of the thought that there are constitutional bodies created to perform that job. He finished by saying that because of the reality that the constitutional commissioners are not doing what they were crated to do, then the civil society must step in to check the state and it’s excesses.
