NTV Lands in Trouble Again After ‘Embarrassing’ Tweet on Iran President’s Visit

Nation Media Group has once again landed in trouble after its TV-owned station (NTV) made a controversial tweet on Wednesday morning.

This was after the station posted a tweet of an analyst Hesbon Owilla, who was in their studios, claiming that Iran President Ebrahim Raisi will not come to Kenya today (Wednesday) after Tuesday’s visit was controversially postponed.

In the tweet, the moderator is heard engaging the analyst on what could have transpired until the visit was rescheduled. The moderator was analyzing Taifa leo’s headline, Nani Alimhaibisha Rais

It was then that Owilla doubted the visit by Iran’s President, saying he doesn’t think he will land in the country on Wednesday (today) after all after the reschedule. He said there was no way the Iranian president would allow his visit from Tuesday to Wednesday, a day when there will be demonstrations in town.

“There is a lot about our foreign policy and how we relate with other nations. There could be a sub-plot that we don’t understand about the relationship between Kenya and Iran and whether the big brother is involved. At what stage was the visit downgraded from a state visit to an official visit? Now that the Iranian president said he will land today, will he really come to Kenya? will you move from a day when there are no demonstrations to arrive on a day when there will be demonstrations? From where I seat, it seems that there will be no visit today,” stated Owilla

However, even before the dust settled on NTV’s tweet, irked Kenyans were on the station’s neck. President Ebrahim’s landing at JKIA was immediately announced, leaving the station and the analyst in an awkward position.

Irked Kenyans took on the station, claiming that CS Kuria’s statement could have been validated. Many criticized the station for allegedly being anti-government and advocating for the negatives and misleading the nation.
