HiThe Salaries and Remuneration Commission(SRC) has now embarked on a move to cut down on costs spent on the wage bill.
Currently, the wage bill in Kenya is over 820 billion shillings, and the taxpayers have had to dig deeper into their pockets to cater to this bill.
Now the SRC has moved to tame the skyrocketing bills by cracking a whip on all civil servants in the country.
In its recommendation, the Commission has revealed that taxpayers will no longer foot water and electricity bills for civil servants.
Other than these bills, the commission has also stated that it will no longer pay unnecessary allowances to these government employees.
These include allowances paid to civil servants for attending retreats. The commission also seeks to abolish allowances to attend conferences far from their workstations.
Also, entertainment allowances provided to offices that provide entertainment and hospitality to official guests will be scrapped.
This move by the commission comes at a time when taxpayers in the country suffer a huge burden due to the increase in fuel prices in the country.

The increase in these prices caused an uproar among members of the public, prompting Government Spokesperson, Cyrus Oguna to address it.
In his response, Oguna said that Kenyans were complaining yet their tax rates were not so high compared to other countries in Europe.Â
