New Allegations Emerge on Why Governor Kimani Wamatangi is Being Fought From the Inside

Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s tenure is currently hanging in the balance as Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) escalate their efforts to impeach him. The accusations against Wamatangi range from allegations of dictatorship, poor leadership, and a perceived inability to effectively oversee the development of the county.

At the heart of the allegations made by the MCAs is their claim that Governor Wamatangi has operated as a solitary decision-maker, often neglecting to collaborate with other county leaders. They argue that he has failed to incorporate key stakeholders into the decision-making process, resulting in a lack of transparency and accountability in the county’s affairs.

However, amid these allegations, a new layer of complexity has emerged, shedding light on the intricate political landscape in Kiambu County. Phillip Etale, the Director of Communications for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has recently raised eyebrow-raising claims that suggest there may be ulterior motives behind the push for Wamatangi’s impeachment.

Etale, speaking through his X platform, has alleged that Governor Wamatangi’s woes stem from a rift within his own political party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). He contends that Wamatangi’s falling out of favor with influential figures within the UDA has triggered the campaign to oust him from office.

One particularly explosive claim made by Etale is related to a piece of land in Thika, which was formerly owned by the Delmonte Company. According to Etale, Governor Wamatangi has steadfastly refused to relinquish control of this land, and this act of defiance has allegedly made him a pariah within his own party. The refusal to hand over the land, the ownership of which is likely disputed or controversial, has ignited fierce political rivalries and put Wamatangi at odds with political allies.

The situation in Kiambu County, therefore, appears to be a convergence of political interests, personal animosities, and allegations of mismanagement. While the MCAs argue that Wamatangi’s removal is essential to address concerns about governance, Etale’s claims suggest that the dynamics within the UDA party may be a significant factor driving the impeachment efforts.
