‘My net worth is Ksh100 million’- EAC CS nominee Beatrice Askul Moe declares

Askul’s commitment

During her vetting, Askul stated that since she is from the ASAL area, she is better placed to use her experience and upbringing to make sure pastoralists get what they deserve without being traumatized.

Askul on Azimio running mate choice

The committee also tasked her to explain her decision behind selecting NARC-Kenya’s Martha Karua as Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party running mate for the 2022 general election.

Askul was a member of the selection panel that selected the running mate for Azimio leader Raila Odinga.

While defending her decision, Askul told the Members of Parliament that the selection involved all parties under Azimio who had representatives on the selection panel.

She assured the MPs that she would be present during the procurement of relief food to avoid any corruption or i*****l practices that bedevil the ministry.

This is after Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah questioned why the prices of relief food are not based on the market prices but are based on the set cost from the companies that have won the tender.

At the end of her vetting, Askul asked the Parliamentary Committee to do her a favour by being part of what she termed as history, by appointing the first Turkana w***n as a minister.

However, Speaker Wetang’ula told Askul that should she get appointed, she will become a minister because of her competence and ability to serve all Kenyans, and not because of her tribe.

Askul is among the two cabinet members that are being vetted in the second batch, with the entire first batch having been appointed and sworn in, apart from the Gender CS nominee  Stella Soi Lang’at whose nomination was rejected.

The other Cabinet member facing the Parliamentary Committee is Attorney General nominee Dorcas Oduor.
