Wahome Thuku, a lawyer and political commentator, has cautioned William Ruto to be careful of Mutahi Ngunyi, a political analyst who recently joined his camp. Thuku alleges that Ngunyi is a risky insider who can leak Ruto’s secrets and ruin his campaign. He advises Ruto to keep Ngunyi at arm’s length and not to share any confidential information with him.
Thuku’s comments come after Ngunyi disclosed some of the dirty tricks that he employed to undermine Ruto’s campaign when he was working for former president Uhuru Kenyatta. Ngunyi confessed that he financed the manifesto launch of Roots Party, led by George Wajackoyah, to clash with Ruto’s launch and weaken his influence. He also admitted that he arranged a media blackout of Ruto’s rallies and skewed opinion polls to favor Kenyatta.
Ngunyi’s revelations have provoked anger among Ruto’s supporters and allies, who have branded him as an intellectual prostitute and a foolish tool. Wajackoyah, who was Ngunyi’s former client, has also rejected his claims as baseless and offensive. He said that Ngunyi is using his party to bow before Ruto and bargain for a position in his administration.
