United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has admitted that some Mombasa residents on Saturday managed to beat their intelligence to access an invite-only event.
He has said that they had printed serialized cards to allow only delegates into their meeting venue at the Government Training Institute (GTI) Mombasa, hoping to control the amount of people attending.
But he has admitted that some uninvited people managed to access the venue despite not having been in the list, using fake cards, hence the clash between supporters of two area leaders.
The politician regretted that this happened even after the party leadership held a meeting with area leaders allied to the party in beforehand, where it was agreed that the event must be peaceful and orderly.
“We have, however, discovered that there are two factions here, one led by Omar and another by Ali. That is democracy and as a party, we encourage democracy. Let everyone campaign to register more members for the party but let us be peaceful, what we have witnessed here today is not good,” he said after the event flopped and was cancelled.
He added that the chaos will be investigated and the two politicians summoned as part of the probe, adding that they will also be dealing with the police officers who lobbed teargas into the event venue.
“We will take action against people bringing violence to the party. We want to find police who lobbed teargas in a hall that was peaceful. We must have decorum, we will not condone violence in the party,” added the former Kakamega Senator.
Omar has accused Ali of printing the fake cards, wondering how his supporters were more than his yet they were supposed to bring equal number of delegates.
