Kenya Railways asks tenants to present evidence of rent payment

The Kenya Railways has issued a notice to tenants and licensees of their assets to ensure that their rent payment is up to date.

In a notice dated Tuesday, April 16, 2024, the corporation ordered tenants to present evidence of payment to the nearest KR office within Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret.

This comes as part of the corporation’s move to identify and tame any transaction disparity over the past few months.

“Take note that the Corporation will take appropriate action as provided for in the Tenancy Agreement on failure to regularize the accounts,” a statement by the corporation read in parts.

Tenants who wish to make payments have been advised to do so by dialing *222#, and then select a payment option.

“Enter KRC123 as the service code, and enter the serial number as the KRC real estate reference – One can confirm their individual serial number from the Kenya Railways offices. Enter the amount then select option 1 to confirm, enter your M Pesa pin.,” the corporation added.

Warning to encroachers

Further, Kenya Railways issued a stern warning against individuals encroaching on the railway operational corridor.

While aiming at individuals who have settled or set up business units in the mentioned areas, the corporation stressed that those caught will be punished by law.

“In addition, the Corporation has noted instances of encroachment whereby members of the public have settled or set up business units on our railway operational corridor. We hereby notify members of the public that encroachment on the railway operational corridor is an offence punishable by law,” the corporation said.

“Our operational corridor lies along the Mombasa to Suswa Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line, Mombasa- Kisumu-Malaba Meter Gauge railway, with branch lines to Nakuru-Kisumu, Voi-Taveta, Nairobi-Nanyuki, Gilgil- Nyahururu, Kisumu- Butere, Eldiret- Kitale, Konza- Magadi and railway sidings.”
