The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection led by CS Florence Bore has conveyed the good news to the public about the payment of elderly persons.

The program had been put to a stop after President William Samoei Ruto and his government announced that they will not borrow more loans to finance the payment of the elderly people.

Madam Florence Bore said that about 1 million people are expected to begin earning the government’s funds for the elderly as an appreciation for what they have done for their country.

The social protection funds for the elderly are meant to assist them to pay their bills and sustain themselves since the law does not allow persons over 65 years to continue providing active services for the government.

The retirement age was increased from 55 years old to 60 years. The threshold for active services in Kenya, 60 years old, has been adopted into the law and it is being implemented by foreign countries to accommodate Kenyans working in their countries permanently to serve for 60 years.

The elderly people have beat all odds for about 8 months now without the social protection fund despite the high cost of living.
