Whereas the late former President Mwai Kibaki is widely considered as the greatest President in the history of Kenya, there are early signs that William Ruto could outperform him and get all the bragging rights.
After hosting the successful inaugural Africa Climate Summit, President Ruto has set in motion what many believe will be a very successful presidency.
Hosting the Africa Climate Summit is no mean achievement considering the amount of attention it attracted across the world.
Having assembled at least 20 African Presidents, UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres, former USA Secretary of State John Kerry and other top world leaders, it would be easy to conclude that this is the biggest ever international meeting held on Kenyan soil.
This has been achieved just one month into Ruto’s reign as President. This no mean achievement considering that none of Ruto’s four predecessors had managed this.
Suddenly, the Head of State has become a darling of the world, with top leaders like Kerry hailing his leadership and eloquence in addressing the issue of climate change.
For the man who has been in power for only one year, commanding respect of his peers is something that has seen his political star rise.
If you have been keenly following Ruto’s presidency since coming to office in 2022, he has technically become the spokesperson of the other African Presidents.
Whenever the lanky figure of Dr Ruto takes to the podium to speak, then you are assured of a good speech.
It is fair to say that Kenya has not had such an influential President before. Though Kibaki had a serious influence on the country’s economy, but Ruto is doing it on a global stage.
Unless something happens midway during his presidency, Ruto could be on the the path to becoming the greatest President Kenya has ever produced.
