This afternoon, the Kenyan government finally spoke up, sending a clear message to the whole Kenyan populace on national identification cards.
Through the ministry of interior cabinet secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the Kenyan government announced today, July 28, 2023, the strategic introduction of new national identity cards with special qualities to ensure data protection for Kenyan citizens.
The newly established national identity cards in Kenya, in addition to other unique qualities, incorporate features for facial, iris, and fingerprint recognition.
The new national identity cards will include a QR code on them, according to the Kenyan government, which would enable digital identification of Kenyan citizens.
The Kenyan government has told all citizens that they would start receiving the new national identity cards on September 16, 2023, both inside and outside the country’s boundaries.
