Gachagua Left on His Own as Kenya Kwanza Dialogue Team Reveals Order Ruto Has Given it

The Kenya Kwanza side of the National Dialogue Committee has now said that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s remarks about the ongoing deliberations do not amount to anything.

Gachagua earlier in the week dismissed the talks, saying they they are headed nowhere. He claimed that as the country’s Second in Command, he can confirm that they will not achieve anything.

But Embu governor Cecily Mbarire, a member of the team on the side led by President William Ruto, now says the DP has no say at all regarding the talks.

She says that they were given the job by Ruto and not Gachagua, adding that they already have orders from Ruto to make the talks as successful as they can be, ruling Gachagua out as inconsequential.

She has also regretted his remarks as unfortunate, asking Kenyans to ignore him.

“I therefore urge every Kenyan not to take anything you hear outside these talks very seriously because there is a purpose we want to achieve through these talks,” said Mbarire, who represented team leader Kimani Ichung’wah during yesterday’s sitting.

This is an echo to what Ichung’wah and National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi said on Monday, that the declarations being made in rallies and events will be ignored as political noises.

Gachagua has been opposed to any form of engagement between Ruto and Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga, claiming that Raila is out for a portion of Ruto’s government.

In Machakos, he claimed that when the two met in Mombasa before forming the negotiation team, Raila demanded for among others, three ambassadorial positions, a demand he claimed Ruto rejected.
