Fresh Details Allege There’s Cold War in Azimio Between MPs and Their National Assembly Leaders

According to sources from the Nation Newspaper, a cold war has been existing between certain Members of Parliament (MPs) and the leaders representing the Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya coalition in parliament. This internal conflict has had a negative impact on the opposition’s performance in parliamentary battles.

The Nation alleges that some MPs within the coalition are attributing the opposition’s poor performance in the National Assembly to a lack of coordination and strategy. This has resulted in Raila Odinga, assuming some of the legislators’ responsibilities. Some MPs are said to be dissatisfied with the leadership within the National Assembly, feeling that it was imposed on them. As a result, they have allegedly engaged in deliberate sabotage of opposition efforts to challenge government-backed proposals.

The Azimio coalition consists of a total of 157 MPs in Parliament. However, during a recent vote on the Finance Bill, less than 100 MPs from the coalition voted against it. According to an anonymous second-term MP, this discrepancy can be attributed to poor leadership and a lack of seriousness among the Azimio MPs, despite having support from some Kenya Kwanza MPs.

Anthony Kibagendi, the Kitutu South MP, has expressed his views on the issues within the Azimio coalition. He claims that the main problem lies in the lack of vibrancy within the coalition in the house. Kibagendi believes that instead of solely relying on the direction of the party leader, MPs should be able to address their concerns through leadership within Parliament, without having to wait for too long to get directives from Raila Odinga.

These internal conflicts and leadership challenges have had a tangible impact on the performance of the Azimio coalition in parliamentary battles. The lack of coordination and strategy, coupled with dissatisfied MPs and deliberate sabotage, have hampered the opposition’s ability to effectively challenge government-backed proposals. The consequences of this internal strife are evident in the poor performance of the opposition in the National Assembly. It remains to be seen how the Azimio La Umoja- One Kenya coalition will address these issues and regain its strength and effectiveness in parliamentary affairs.
