Though he was lauded for managing to secure the politically volatile Nyanza region during and after the 2022 general election, Karanja Muiruri could not survive the Azimio la Umoja coalition demonstrations in 2023.
In March 2023, a day after the violent anti-government protests in the pro-former Prime Minister Raila Odinga region, Nyanza Regional Police Commander was shown the exit door.
It is reported that his bosses in Nairobi were not happy with the manner he handled the protests amid claims that he was very lenient on the demonstrators.
His bosses at Jogoo House office in Nairobi recalled him for redeployment as his position in Nyanza was taken by Noah Mwivanda.
Muiruri had been at the helm of Nyanza region security for four years since succeeding Lydia Ligami in 2019.
It marked the end of the road for his journey as Nyanza police chief. But almost five months after his recalling, the fate of Muiruri remains unknown. What exactly became of him? Which role was he assigned?
