Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Friday, January 12, 2024, left for the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the Zanzibar revolution.
In an update, the second in command noted he arrived in the Tanzanian archipelago island where he will be representing President William Ruto.
“I arrived in Zanzibar City to represent President @WilliamsRuto for the 60th Anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution,” part of his statement stated.
The DP was accompanied by Second Lady Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and various MPs including MP Owen Baya of Kilifi North, Michael Muchira of Ol Jororok, Letipila Eli (Samburu North) and Rachel Nyamai (Kitui South).

Others are Kipkelion East MP Joseph Cherorot, and Women representatives Jane Njeri (Kirinyaga County) and Cynthia Muge of Nandi County.
Various heads of State including Rwandan President Paul Kagame and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda are also in attendance.
Notably, the Zanzibar Revolution dubbed Mapinduzi ya Zanzibar in Swahili, occurred in January 1964 leading to the overthrow of the Sultan of Zanzibar.
At the time, the majority Black African population was fighting to oust the government that was dominated by Arabs.
Zanzibar later united with Tanganyika to form the United Republic of Tanzania.
Although the archipelago became a partly self-governing state in Tanzania it is not an independent country.
