Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition had called off today’s Wednesday demonstrations.

The opposition coalition urged that persons intending to converge for the vigils should convene at locations including; hospitals, parks, bus stages, churches, markets, shopping centers, social halls, county assemblies and county headquarters, from 6 am.

As a result of a declaration made by Azimio leaders on July 24, 2023, Kenyans will observe prayers and vigils today in remembrance of demonstrators who lost their lives in recent anti-government demonstrations.

The Coalition said it arrived at the decision after carrying out an operation, which is yet to be completed, entailing summing up the number of deceased persons and injuries from the past demos.

The Raila Odinga-led faction added that upon lighting the candles and laying the wreaths, those in attendance should sing the Nation Anthem and say prayers for those who died or were injured during the demos.

Prior to Wednesday, Joshua Ayika, a staff member at Siaya Governor James Orengo’s law company, was detained on suspicion of endangering national security.

Yesterday, which was the first time he made public appearance since the flu attack, he did not engage with the public but adressed the international community on the Kenyan crisis.

In a video posted by the nation Africa, the supporters were filmed singing in unison and solidarity to honour the fallen colleagues.
