After a day of chaos that resulted in numerous casualties and extensive property damage, leaders from Kenya Kwanza and Azimio traded accusations, each blaming the other for the violent demonstrations.
Protests erupted in 20 counties, leading to the loss of several lives and leaving numerous individuals injured.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, speaking in Laikipia, criticized Azimio leader Raila Odinga for calling for the demonstrations. Gachagua accused Raila of mobilizing a criminal gang and providing them with minimal financial compensation to incite mayhem.
He expressed his previous warning to President Uhuru Kenyatta about Raila being the source of the problem and lamented the loss of lives and the resulting plight of affected families.
Meanwhile, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi condemned the protests and highlighted the risk they pose to the government’s agenda of economic recovery.
Mudavadi insisted that Azimio leaders should be held accountable for the chaos witnessed during the demonstrations, emphasizing the need for the law to take its course.
“It is time to enforce the law,” Mudavadi asserted. “The Azimio leaders bear responsibility for instigating riots under the guise of peaceful demonstrations, which have resulted in the senseless destruction of property and loss of lives.”
