2 instances when gov’t was bashed for failing to help dying Kenyans in 2023

The government has often found itself under sharp criticism over different policies, utterances, or its system of governance.

This year, the President William Ruto-led administration found itself on the wrong books of its citizens twice for failing to assist dying Kenyans.

Below are the moments when some Kenyans gave the government a piece of their minds.

Kenyans call out gov’t after private choppers rescue people

Last month, a section of Kenyans took to their different social media accounts to criticize the Kenya Kwanza administration after videos of private choppers rescuing citizens trapped in flood prone areas emerged.

In one instance, a helicopter by Save The Elephants (STE) piloted by Andrew Francombe of Ol Malo Ranch saved eight flood victims in Samburu, including women and children.

The incident sparked debate with citizens putting the government on the spot for what they described as misplaced priorities and lacking proper rescue protocols even after announcing that they (the government) had invested millions to mitigate the adverse effects of the floods.

While quarters called out the government for the aforementioned reasons, some wondered why the country’s helicopters were not being used to counteract such situations.

Below are some of the comments.

@Wakilinomad wrote: This is the second or third time a private individual has rescued Kenyans with his chopper. Zetu ni zakupeleka gov’t officers’ kids to Mombasa of maternity?

Another user, Krazygb, wrote: “Those Airbus and other rubbish politicians buy with our taxes are currently in hangars being polished with turtle wax. Only come in use when their owners want to hypnotise Kenyans.

MrBeast digs 52 wells

Shortly after American YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson alias MrBeast warmed hearts after sinking 52 wells across Kenya, quarters called out the government for failing its people.

MrBeast constructed the wells across remote parts of Kenya and they are expected to serve over 500,000 people. He also built a bridge and donated computers to needy schools.

The act by the 25-year-old philanthropist sparked debate across media platforms. Quarters poked holes into Ruto’s service delivery and wondered why the government does not use its resources to launch such key projects.

“Mr Beast has done what our leaders should have done long ago. Kenya alone cries of water shortage yet there is a solution,” an X user said.

Others feared that some local leaders may take credit for the 25-year-old’s projects.
