Every superhero has a backstory, which describes how the average person transforms into someone remarkable. Spider-Man is no exception. When we first meet Peter Parker, he is a quiet, awkward high school student who, while on a science trip, is bitten by a radioactive spider (in the 2000s film version, this is changed to a genetically modified spider). As a result of this bite, Parker’s blood is altered, making him instantly stronger, incredibly fast, and able to fire webs, scale buildings, and do great leaps.
