Julia Roberts has a confession – another confession. More than 25 years after its release, Roberts has said that My Best Friend’s Wedding is the one movie of hers that she wouldn’t mind revisiting. She even has a vague idea of what audiences could see.

Speaking with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Julia Roberts said the movie of hers that she would most likely deserve a follow-up was more than likely My Best Friend’s Wedding “because there’s so many people in it, and to see what they’re doing and how Kimmy and Michael’s marriage is going and…” In the movie, Julia Roberts’ Julianne hatches a plan to spoil the wedding of Michael (Dermont Mulroney) and Kimmy (the once-retired Cameron Diaz). This does not work out and Julianne ends the movie dancing with one of her other friends, played by Rupert Everett. While Roberts may not have a firm idea for a sequel, My Best Friend’s Divorce seems like the most natural move, with the story centering around Jules trying to keep Michael and Kimmy together.

My Best Friend’s Wedding took in nearly $300 million worldwide, making it Julia Roberts’ second-biggest box office hit as a lead up to that point after 1990’s Pretty Woman and further continuing her quest to being America’s sole sweetheart. (Notting Hill and Runaway Bride – released just two months apart – would top My Best Friend’s Wedding two years later, although the latter had the edge domestically.) The movie was also well received by critics and awards associations, earning Roberts a Golden Globe nomination as lead actress in the musical/comedy category; she actually already had two previous wins.
