Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness announce their amicable separation after 27 years of marriage.
X-Men franchise star and Ryan Reynolds’ BFF Hugh Jackman and his wife Deborra-lee have agreed to an amicable separation after 27 years. The couple confirmed the split in an exclusive with People, saying their respective journies have shifted, and they’re going their separate ways to pursue individual growth.
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority,” the couple said. “We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness. We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.” Hugh and Deborra concluded their joint statement by saying, “This is the sole statement either of us will make.”
Hugh and Deborra share two children, Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18.
Hugh and Deborra met on the Australian TV series Corelli set in 1995. The duo hit the ground running after sparks started flying. Deborra was an established actress then, while Hugh was bright-eyed, bushy-tailed out of drama school, and eager to embark on his now-historic journey to the silver screen. The two met when Hugh and Deborra shared a car ride.
“She took off her seatbelt and she turned around and put out her hand and took off her sunglasses and said, ‘Hi, I’m Deborra-lee Furness, nice to meet you.’ I remember thinking, ‘I like this girl,” Jackman told People in 2017.
The couple celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary in April. Jackman publically expressed his gratitude for Deborra by sharing a lovely post on social media, writing, “I love you so much. Together we have created a beautiful family. And life. Your laughter, your spirit, generosity, humor, cheekiness, courage and loyalty is an incredible gift to me.”
