Introduction

The Nairobi Centre for International Arbitration (NCIA), established in 2013 by the NCIA Act No. 26 of 2013, is a Centre dedicated to promoting international commercial arbitration and alternative dispute resolution methods.

Position: Registrar/Chief Executive Officer

  • Job Grade: NCIA 1
  • Reference: NCIA/HR/01/2024-2025
  • Reports To: Board of Directors
  • Location: NCIA Office, Co-operative Bank House, Nairobi
  • Salary Scale: Kes. 260,000 x 17,000 – 340,000 p.m.
  • Terms of Service: Four-year contract, renewable once.

Job Purpose

As the Chief Executive Officer, the Registrar will manage the overall operations of the Centre, ensuring effective implementation of the Board’s decisions, and maintaining the Centre’s standards of quality, efficiency, and ethical practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and overall management of the Centre.
  • Strategy and Planning: Develop and recommend long-term strategies, business plans, and budgets.
  • Internal Systems: Establish internal monitoring and control systems.
  • Communication: Ensure effective communication within the Centre.
  • Employee Management: Provide leadership to employees, ensuring a conducive work environment.
  • Corporate Governance: Oversee policy implementation, promote ethical practices, and ensure legal compliance.
  • Financial Management: Oversee financial policies, audits, and fund management.
  • Human Resources: Coordinate human resource management and administrative policies.

Arbitral Court Responsibilities

  • Secretariat Services: Provide support services to the court.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain the court registry, case registers, and files.
  • Compliance: Certify and disseminate court decisions, keep records of proceedings, and undertake duties assigned by the court.

Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 10 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior management position.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Arbitration, Economics, or Insurance; a postgraduate degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional Development: Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Program (6 weeks minimum).
  • Compliance: Must meet the requirements of Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
  • Professional Membership: Member of a recognized professional body in good standing.
  • Understanding of Policies: Thorough understanding of national goals, policies, and the ability to translate them into alternative dispute resolution policies.
