Mpesa Foundation Academy Hiring Security Officer

The Security Officer will work closely with the Head of Security, subcontracted security team, and the heads of departments on all matters related to security.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily supervision of security guards in accordance with MFA security policies and SOPs applicable for both internal and external guards. As guided by Head of security, provide data on the performance of the external guarding company and internal guards to enable the monitoring of Service Level Agreement between the guarding company and MFA.
  •  Investigating and ensuring losses due to fraud and theft as well as any security related incidents are promptly and fully mitigated/reported to the Head of Security and ensuring that agreed counter measures are put in place, in accordance with MFA Best practice guidelines.
  •  Performing regular security spot check and patrols and pointing out any security lapses that needs immediate attention.
  •  Monitoring all security systems like burglar alarms, access control systems, CCTV, HF/VHF radios are working properly.
  •  Producing monthly report to the Head of security, detailing any security issues or absence thereof.
  • Providing overall protection of the Academy’s assets, information, students, employees, and visitors, and at the same time ensuring school reputation is
    safeguarded.
  • Conducting regular briefing sessions, training, planning, assigning and directing work; appraise performance, rewarding, and disciplining guards, and addresses complaints and resolving problems.
  •  Maintaining a professional reputation between the academy and the surrounding community.
  •  Liaising/interacting, conducting meetings with law enforcement agencies, security stakeholders to share information, intelligence and to put additional security measures depending with threat level.
  •  Enforcing and ensuring security policies and procedures are followed by staff, students, contractors and visitors and any other school policy as may be directed by Head of security from time to time.
  •  Continuously gathering intelligence on issues of fraud, theft and child safeguard and protection and reporting to the Head of Security.
  •  Coordinating and overseeing security measures during Admission process in all 47 counties.
  • Conducting necessary security trainings and awareness to both students and staff in the academy.
  •  Organizing and ensuring students who have attained the age of 18 years are issued with National ID while in school by liaising with office of registrar of person.
  •  Tracking movement of school vehicles and responding to any emergency involving school vehicles.
  • Conducting security risk assessment before students go for trips.
  • Networking and keeping abreast with emerging security challenges and advising Head of security on the appropriate interventions to ensure school security is guaranteed at all times.
  • Spearheading development and implementation of school security policies, procedure and other work instruction as directed by Head of security.
  •  Security Officer is expected to be flexible, from time to time he/she may be added task in line with their role by their direct manager.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Holds Degree in security related course or its equivalent preferably Criminology or Security studies.
  • At least Three years’ experience as a security officer or law enforcement agent or equivalent work experience in a learning institution.
  • Must computer literate.

  •  Ability to build rapport quickly with staff utilizing excellent customer service skills.
  • Good organizational planning skills and a proven ability to work with a large degree of independence, managing own workload and priorities and identifying opportunities to add value to the business.
  •  Ability to work under pressure, remain calm and focused, and to make timely and effective decisions.
