The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a state corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013 as the national body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.KEMRI has grown from its humble beginning over 40 years ago to become a regional leader in human health research. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate program activities to support efficient team operations.
  2. Organize and manage the Director’s calendar, including scheduling and coordinating meetings.
  3. Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence.
  4. Gather and organize information for meetings, reports, and events to ensure the Director is well-prepared.
  5. Provide administrative and logistical support for stakeholder meetings, advocacy events, and training workshops across various regions.
  6. Manage travel arrangements for the Director, liaising with the travel agency as needed.
  7. Assist the Director with special projects, including research, literature reviews, and obtaining necessary approvals.
  8. Maintain comprehensive and accurate records.
  9. Arrange travel plans, including flights, accommodations, and transportation.
  10. Coordinate events and speaking engagements.
  11. Draft professional correspondence, such as emails and letters.
  12. Take accurate and detailed notes during meetings.
  13. Support the preparation of presentations and take meeting minutes.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, or Education.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong analytical skills, with excellent planning and organizational abilities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-skilled team.
    • High level of organizational and time management skills.
    • Proficiency in multitasking with keen attention to detail.
    • Interest in bioethics, training, and capacity building.
    • Integrity and professionalism in all tasks and responsibilities.
