The African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) is a premier intergovernmental think tank in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) policy, established in 1988. ACTS’ mission is to strengthen the capacities of African countries and institutions to use science, technology, and innovation for sustainable development. With its headquarters in Nairobi, ACTS operates under a host agreement with the Kenyan government and enjoys international recognition. Its governing council includes representatives from Ghana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Cote d’Ivoire, the UK, Sweden, COMESA, NEPAD, and the East African Science and Technology Commission.
For over three decades, ACTS has been a pioneer in expanding policy options for sustainable development across Africa. Our work has influenced significant policies in patent legislation, environmental standards, bio-energy, agriculture, biotechnology, climate change adaptation, and more. ACTS has earned top ratings as an influential environment and climate change think tank and is widely recognized as a knowledge center in STI, energy, agriculture, and climate change.
Our current strategic priorities (2021-2026) focus on three main program areas: Agriculture, Food, and Nutrition Security; Climate Resilient Economy (CRE); and Science, Technology, Innovation, Knowledge, and Society (STIKS), along with Digital Economy, Youth, Gender, and Inclusive Development.
