Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua on Thursday, October 31, 2024, mounted pressure on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to launch investigations into a fake DCI letter that had summoned her.
This is after the DCI, in a statement posted on their official social media accounts, flagged the letter that had gone viral.
The letter that was flagged as fake had summoned Karua to appear before the DCI over some remarks that she had made via her official social media accounts.
Karua on fake letter
Karua, while responding to the DCI statement that branded the latter as fake news, demanded urgent investigations to unmask the origin of the said letter.
According to Karua, the letter is not only fake but also impersonates the DCI office.
She demanded to know the DCI’s next course of action after finding out that the letter was fake.
Karua further argued that the fake letter can be assumed to have been part of government propaganda if the DCI fails to investigate it.
“You prosecute any crimes committed under the cyber security laws; this is not just another fake letter that impersonates your office; what are you doing about it? Unless, of course, it is from a certain known propaganda office of the KK (Kenya Kwanza) regime,” Karua stated in a post on her X account.

Karua was part of the trends on X (formally Twitter) for the better part of Wednesday, October 30, 2024, when a section of influencers circulated the fake letter claiming that she had been summoned.
Karua’s call for investigation follows the DCI’s recent trend of prosecuting several crimes linked to cyber security laws that have landed various social media users in trouble.
Aoko’s whereabouts
Popular social media activist and influencer Scorphine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, is among the social media users that have been arrested and prosecuted for their comments.
Kenyans have continued to question her whereabouts after being inactive in the online space.
Aoko, who has been a vocal government critic on X, last posted on her account on October 22, 2024, before going silent on all platforms.
