Health Crisis of Tom Lockyer

Luton Town’s captain, Tom Lockyer, recently experienced a health scare during a Premier League match against Bournemouth. He was taken to hospital for tests and scans after suffering a heart arrest on the field.

Lockyer, who had previously undergone heart surgery following a collapse in May, fell during the game, prompting the match to be prematurely ended. The 29-year-old received medical attention on the pitch for nearly seven minutes, leading to the suspension of the game at the 65-minute mark, with the score standing at 1-1. This incident has raised health concerns, and Lockyer, alongside his family, has requested for privacy during this challenging period.

Lockyer, formerly of Charlton and Bristol Rovers, collapsed on the 27th of May 2018 during Luton’s triumph over Coventry in the promotion playoff final at Wembley. He was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, a condition characterised by erratic and often excessively high heart rhythm. This required surgery and a five-day hospital stay. Lockyer received the green light to return to Luton for pre-season training in June. However, it remains uncertain if he will resume playing at the highest level.

In a display of solidarity, the Luton women’s team showed their support for Lockyer on Sunday. They posed in a photo wearing Lockyer’s No. 4 shirt ahead of their 1-0 FA Cup third-round victory over Keynsham. The team expressed their well-wishes for a swift recovery on their Twitter account.
