Thai authorities have apprehended two Chinese nationals involved in the illicit trade of meth pills in Rama 9 district, Bangkok.

The individuals, identified as 25 year old Li Xiang Song and 29 year old Yang Zhou, were arrested in a high-end condominium in the Rama 9 district. Upon their capture, an astounding 18.8 kilogrammes of methamphetamine was seized along with happy water powder, a digital scale, mobile phones, metal tubes, and four boxes designed to disguise the drugs as water filters.

The arrests followed a tip-off from an undercover informant, leading to a surveillance operation that identified the suspects based on their suspicious behaviour. The police’s strategic search resulted in the discovery of methamphetamine cleverly concealed within water filters, ready to be distributed across Asia and Europe.

The packaging bore foreign language inscriptions labelling the contents as water filters, and the drugs were wrapped in shock-resistant plastic for shipment through private courier services. The payment for the courier service was arranged through a QR code sent to a female accomplice for transaction completion.

The investigation, conducted jointly with the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), revealed that this operation had been active for over a year. The narcotics were sourced from the northern regions and meticulously packed within the inner workings of Chinese water filters unavailable in Thailand. This tactic allowed the smugglers to evade detection successfully.

Li also has a history of criminal activity, including a previous vehicular manslaughter incident in Phichit Province while surveying potential drug trafficking routes, reported KhaoSod.

Despite their initial denial of the allegations, the suspects now face charges of illegal possession, distribution of methamphetamine, and drug consumption. They are currently in custody, awaiting prosecution according to Thai law.

In related news, a significant drug patrolling operation, conducted in Pathum Thani’s Lat Lum Kaeo district, resulted in the apprehension of six individuals linked to a major drug network. The operation also led to the confiscation of 5.6 million methamphetamine pills and 200 kilogrammes of ketamine.
