Wild footage has emerged of a truck narrowly avoiding a head-on collision after driving onto the wrong side of a city tunnel and swerving past oncoming traffic.
The dashcam footage was taken by a couple as they drove through Sydney’s WestConnex Tunnel near Haberfield, in the city’s west, on Sunday evening.
They immediately panicked as the truck sped towards them and appeared to crash head-on into their vehicle.
The couple and other vehicles traveling in the right direction were lucky to avoid the wayward truck, with no accidents reported at the time.
NSW Police confirmed they are investigating the incident and have since located the Isuzu truck seen in the footage.
In the car you hear a man say: ‘What is this man doing? (It) appears he is driving on the wrong side of the road as the truck was rapidly approaching them.
Silence falls over the car for a brief second before a woman inside the car screams and the driver lays down on the horn as they quickly swerve to the right to avoid the oncoming truck.
Dashcam footage from the rear of the vehicle shows the truck pulling out of the driveway toward a van.
The van was fortunate to have passed an emergency stop when the truck swerved to avoid the collision.
At the end of the footage, it appears that the driver of the truck turns back onto the road and continues to drive in the wrong direction.
The footage was posted to social media, where numerous users commented on the truck driver’s erratic actions.
“How can you enter the tunnel on the wrong side?” wrote one user.
“NSW drivers man you can’t trust them on the road,” wrote a second.

Dashcam footage shows the truck weaving in and out of an emergency stop and a driveway, narrowly avoiding two head-on collisions within seconds.
NSW Police confirmed investigations into the incident are ongoing.
They have found the car involved, but are still looking for the driver.
A spokesperson for Transurban, which oversees WestConnex and other toll roads across Australia, said their focus is on the “safety of the tens of thousands of motorists” who use the highway every day.
“Driving the wrong way against traffic is incredibly unsafe and could end in tragedy,” the spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia.
‘Signs approaching the WestConnex tunnels and the WestConnex motorway network are very clear, but unfortunately some motorists ignore them and endanger themselves and others.
The company has a team of people monitoring the motorway network 24 hours a day via ‘hundreds of CCTV cameras on every motorway’.
“Transurban’s automated incident response cameras can detect someone or something that should not be on the highway, and the team can dispatch incident response crews within minutes,” the spokesperson said.
“Transurban traffic control rooms work with emergency services, first responders and the Transport Management Center to keep you safely on the road.”
