Taylor Swift donates $1million to Tennessee residents affected by deadly tornadoes over the weekend

  • Thirteen tornadoes touched down over the weekend, devastating multiple counties across the state
  • She funded the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee
  • Swift’s family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, when she was a teenager so she could pursue her dream of becoming a country artist

Taylor Swift has contributed $1 million to help Tennesseans affected by the recent tornado storm.

The 33-year-old singer donated to natural disaster relief after 13 tornadoes reportedly touched down over the weekend, devastating multiple counties across the state.

She said she funded the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Tennessee Emergency Response Fund USA today on Monday.

The community foundation’s CEO Hal Cato also confirmed the Grammy winner’s contribution to the organization – which she has donated to in the past.

The Cruel Summer hitmaker – who cheered on her boyfriend Travis Kelce at his home game in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday – has donated to the organization in the past.

Her donation will help help those affected with financial assistance, food, temporary housing, debris removal and animal shelter.

During the weekend, CNN reported that at least six people were killed and more than 50 people were injured as a result of the devastating tornadoes.

More than 35,000 Tennesseans are reported to have been affected by power outages and buildings structurally damaged by the storm.

The Pennsylvania native previously donated to the same organization in March 2020 when tornadoes hit the state she considers home.

At the time, she shared a post to her Instagram Story, along with a link for others to contribute.

“Nashville is my home and the fact that so many people have lost their homes and many more people in Middle Tennessee is devastating to me,” she said.

As a teenager, Swift attended Hendersonville High School in Sumner County.

Although she spends most of her time on the East Coast, she still lives and has her office in Nashville.

She funded the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee's Tennessee Emergency Response Fund, according to a USA Today report published Monday. The community foundation's CEO Hal Cato also confirmed the Grammy winner's contribution to the organization - which she has donated to in the past.

During her tour, she notably donated to food banks in every American city she played.

First, her contribution to the Arizona Food Bank Network allowed the organization to provide 40,000 pounds of fresh produce to their food banks.

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley Food Bank also stated that during its tour stop in Santa Clara, California, it donated enough money “to feed an average of approximately 500,000 people each month in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.”

After wrapping up the first leg of her record-breaking tour in August, she also gave $55 million in bonuses to her touring crew, including dancers, truck drivers, sound crew and catering staff.
