Ryan Reynolds teases he is bringing back the TV show ALF but with a twist for His Maximum Effort Channel: 'Doing fun things'

Ryan Reynolds has teased the return of ALF (‘Alien Life Form’) on a recent post on his Instagram account.

On Monday, the actor, 46, announced that he would be bringing back ALF, everyone’s favorite centuries-old, wisecracking alien, on his Maximum Effort Channel on July 29.

‘Holy cats! Having our own @MaximumEffort Channel means doing fun things like making new ALF content for ALF re-runs. Marketing should be FUN,’ Reynolds stated on his Instagram post.

‘Thanks to our intrepid #MaximumMoment partners @mintmobile @hims @ring @fubotv @weareMNTN and of course @gordonshumwayofficial.’

The revival of ALF was done through a partnership between Reynolds, ALF creator Paul Fusco, and the recently rebranded Shout! Studios.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the reprise will not consist of full-length episodes.

Instead, Maximum Effort will broadcast old ALF episodes alongside with ALF-centric shorts that promote brands like Mint Mobile and Hims. Some of these shorts were featured on the almost four minute long video in Reynolds’s Instagram post.

In 2019, Reynolds purchased an ownership stake in Mint Mobile that’s somewhere between 20 percent and 25 percent. Since the purchase, he has appeared in many advertisements for Mint Mobile.

‘At Maximum Effort, we love taking risks and blurring the lines between shows and sponsorship because we believe both can be equally entertaining,’ the Wrexham FC owner told Entertainment Weekly.

‘Besides my irrational love of ALF [while] growing up, one of the reasons we licensed this show was precisely because Paul, Shout! Studios, and our intrepid brand partners wanted to plot with us to bring ALF back to life.’

The well-known puppet, which is performed by Fusco, was the titular character of the hit sitcom, which was broadcasted on NBC. ALF ran for four seasons and was on the air from September 22, 1986, to March 24, 1990.

The plot of the NBC sitcom revolves around the Tanner family, a suburban middle-class family who reside in the San Fernando Valley area of California, who take in ALF and after he crash-lands in their garage.

The series shows the Tanner family doing their best to hide the alien from nosy neighbors and government agencies.

Maximum Effort is the film production agency and digital marketing agency that was founded in 2018 by Reynolds and George Dewey.

It was acquired by the advertising software company MNTN in June 2021, with Maximum Effort Marketing retaining its name while operating as an agency within MNTN.

Dewey was named as MNTN’s chief brand officer and Reynolds as MNTN’s chief creative officer.

Maximum Effort’s name is a reference to a catchphrase from Reynold’s 2016 superhero film Deadpool and its subsequent film series.

The company produced the second Deadpool film and the FX series Welcome to Wrexham. It will also produce Deadpool 3, which is scheduled to be released in 2024.
