Queen Camilla looks sophisticated in green dress as she meets with female leaders from across the Commonwealth at event to tackle domestic violence

Queen Camilla met with female leaders from across the Commonwealth on Wednesday at an event dedicated to tackling domestic violence.

Camilla, 76, said it was ‘so important’ for her to attend the event at Marlborough House, London – which aimed to protect women and children from domestic abuse.

The royal, who looked typically sophisticated in a dark green dress with heeled boots, was greeted by the Secretary General of the Commonwealth, Baroness Scotland, as she arrived at Commonwealth headquarters in central London.

Baroness Scotland said one in three women in the world will experience domestic violence at some point in their lives, adding that women are “disproportionately affected” in any type of crisis.

She said Camilla’s support had been ‘amazing’, adding that the Queen had ‘great care for people’.

Baroness Scotland, the first woman to become Attorney General for England and Wales, said: ‘So many people want to keep quiet, and it’s not necessarily pleasant to talk about.

‘But Her Majesty is absolutely convinced that she would be a spokesperson for all those women who think they have no voice.’

Camilla attended a reception of dignitaries including British-Ghanaian entrepreneur and actress Lady Dentaa Amoateng.

She also met with leaders of the Mirabel Centre, Nigeria’s first referral center that provides free medical and psychosocial support to survivors of rape and sexual assault.

Itoro Eze-Anaba, the center’s founder, said Camilla’s support has “helped people to speak out” as it has given “credibility” to the center.

She added that the center had helped more than 8,200 survivors of rape and sexual assault – with the centre’s youngest client being just three months old and the oldest being 82 years old.

Ayotola Jagun, director of the Mirabel Centre, said Camilla’s support as patron “has done wonders” for the confidence of the center’s staff.

Camilla also met Maya Kirti Nanan, winner of the Commonwealth Youth of the Year Award for 2023.

The 20-year-old from Trinidad and Tobago founded an autism center called Rahul’s Clubhouse, named after her brother Rahul who was diagnosed with autism.

The Commonwealth Secretariat said the event at Marlborough House would help build an alliance “involving all sectors and professions” to work to protect women and children from domestic violence.

It added that it would also help shape the Commonwealth’s strategy at Cop28 to ‘advocate for the needs and interests of women and girls, including calling for an inclusive loss and damage fund’.
