Ooko Okinyo has been the lead presenter at Emuria FM for three years, and this media house is situated in Busia. Recently, she has been the center of attention after a picture emerged showing her broadcasting with her two-year-old baby peacefully napping on her lap. The MMUST alumnus explained that her child was sick that day, leaving her with no choice but to balance her motherly responsibilities with her work.

As a broadcaster at Emuria FM, a community radio station based in Busia, Ooko hosts a drive show every day of the week. The photo of her carrying out her duties with her child on her lap garnered admiration for her apparent determination to face challenges head-on.

Ooko shared with the writer that her domestic help had been unreliable, with her nanny leaving, and another potential nanny playing tricks on her, The child’s illness further complicated matters, as there was no one available to take care of her. Consequently, she had to multitask between attending to her child and fulfilling her work commitments.

Despite these difficulties, Ooko’s bosses at the community media house have been supportive, allowing her to bring her child to work, They also assist in finding interim caregivers while they search for a full-time nanny for her.

Ooko expressed her gratitude for her boss’s support and the assistance she receives from her colleagues at the workplace while she is on air.

The 27-year-old Ooko is a graduate of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) in Kakamega, holding a Diploma in Public Relations. Joining the radio station in 2020, she has remained committed to her job for the past three years.
