NSYNC ‘to reunite with Justin Timberlake’ for roles in animated Trolls sequel and will release first new song in over two decades
One of the most successful boy bands of all time may soon be reuniting.
NSYNC and its five original members — Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Justin Timberlake — are reportedly getting back together for roles in the third Trolls movie, according to Entertainment Tonight.
The group, who had a wildly successful run as a five piece from 1995 to 2004, are expected to release a new single for Trolls Band Together, which would be their first song together since Girlfriend (2001).
Timberlake has been the voice of the character Branch in the first two installments of the franchise films: Trolls (2016) and Trolls World Tour (2020), and he’s back again for the new one that’s expected to drop in November.
The trailer for the animated flick offers up several hints at the NYSYC reunion with Timberlake, including when Branch and his four brothers are said to have been in a group together called BroZone.

In the teaser scene, one of the brothers, Floyd (Sivan), is kidnapped, and then John Dory (André) tracks Branch down in an effort to reunite the group and save their brother.
The dialogue hints at the reunion by using clever word-play and several references of the group and other popular boy bands of the same era.
‘Branch, we’re out of sync,’ Floyd can be heard telling his brother in a flashback in the trailer. ‘We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction for us to go: to the back streets.’
The John Dory character then chimes in: ‘Branch, it’s time we find the rest of our brothers and get the band back together,’ which leads to all five brothers announcing in unison: ‘Bro time.’
Along with Timberlake and the four brothers, the cast also includes Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello, RuPaul, Amy Schumer, Andrew Rannells and Zosia Mamet.
So far Universal Pictures has not yet confirmed the news of NSYNC’s roles in the film and if they are in fact contributing a song to the soundtrack.
NSYNC last recorded new material in 2002 before undergoing an indefinite hiatus. During the hiatus Timberlake announced his departure from the group in 2004, following the success of his debut solo album Justified.Â
The group would continue on without Timberlake as a four piece until 2007 when they officially disbanded.Â

Over the years the original five members have reunited on occasion, including for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, and again when they received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame in 2018.Â
During their career, the group completed five nationwide concert tours and sold over 70 million records, making them one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.Â
After leaving NSYNC, Justin Timberlake went on to become a massive success as a solo artist, releasing five studio albums, resulting in him taking home 10 Grammy Awards and selling over 32 million albums.
Trolls Band Together is set to hit theaters on November 17.Â
