No immigrant hate
I saw the article “Hate at migrant site in SI” (Aug. 28), and I want to clarify that the hatred and violence has not been coming from the residents who oppose the handling of illegal migrants.
Actually, I do not know anyone who is not an immigrant or the descendant of immigrants. They themselves came to this country or their parents, grandparents, etc. did.
But they came legally and then did not become a burden on citizens here. The current influx is illegal immigrants, who have jumped ahead of those legitimately seeking asylum by flooding in due to open-border policies.
Our current elected officials, with some exceptions, are being conned. Don’t call opponents of that anti-immigrant.

Drink recs change
Dr. George Koob’s comments calling for a drastic change to the federal recommendations on alcohol before the review of alcohol research has even begun undermines the scientific rigor and objectivity of the entire dietary guidelines process (“Biden’s alcohol czar warns new guidance could be only 2 beers a week,” Aug. 24).
For more than 30 years, the federal guidance on alcohol consumption has been no more than one drink per day for women and two drinks per day for men for those who choose to drink.
It is extremely alarming and inappropriate for a federal official to predetermine the outcome of the dietary guidelines and suggest changing decades of precedent without the benefit of the scientific review to support such a sweeping move.

Anthony’s anthem
I have to commend Oliver Anthony for stating he thinks the use of his song at the Republican primary debate is funny (“ ‘Rich Men’ singer: I’m no Joe fan,” Aug. 27). He is spot on with saying it is about both parties. They both want complete control. They both want to tax the middle class out of existence.
Although I will say I align somewhat more with the Republicans, I still think overall neither party has my best interest in mind. Both are out of touch, run by mega-wealthy empty suits.

LA mayhem
Just as in New York City and other cities, the decent, law-abiding citizens in Los Angeles are now outnumbered by the foolish “progressives” who continue to vote for insane lawmakers and prosecutors who bring nothing but destruction to a decent way of life (“Ballot Bandits,” Susan Shelley, PostScript, Aug. 27). What’s worse — they can’t even see the result right in front of their eyes. Who would believe we have come to see such an absence of reason and logic? Why would anyone vote for the certain decline in their safety and way of life?

Sorority spat
Having been in a sorority myself, I am mystified as to how this apparently unwelcome transgender person got into the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority at the University of Wyoming (“Sorority stymied,” Aug. 30).
I assume that the process remains pretty much the same: There are rush parties to meet new students who are interested in joining, then current members vote on who they would like to extend an invitation to. Rushees don’t get to join unless the members want them in the group.
