New York police dog survives being stabbed 12 times by burglary suspect, expected to fully recover

Doggone lucky.

A New York police dog is expected to make a full recovery after a burglary suspect stabbed him a dozen times during an arrest Wednesday.

Norbi, a canine officer with the Troy Police Department, will be back on duty in no time after surviving the brutal attack, the department announced.

The Belgian Malinois pup and his human partner were pursuing a man accused of breaking into homes in the area when he was stabbed with a knife, according to police.

The suspect had allegedly lunged at Norbi, who was leashed, causing him to bite the man on one of his legs, the Times Union of Albany reported.

When Norbi sank his teeth into the alleged burglar’s leg, the man repeatedly plunged a knife into the dog’s torso area, cops told the outlet.

The suspect was arrested and brought to a local hospital for the dog bite, while Norbi was rushed to a veterinary hospital.

Norbi was released from the veterinary clinic later the same day and received a warm salute from his Troy police coworkers who stood outside the animal hospital and applauded the brave hound as he walked out.

“Canine Norbi is expected to make a full recovery and will be returning to active duty after a period of rest and rehabilitation,” the Troy Police Department said.

Norbi’s alleged attacker limped into court, where he pleaded not guilty to several charges, including felony burglary and misdemeanor injuring a police animal, according to the Times Union. He was placed behind bars without bail.
