The personal life of Nazir Razak, the esteemed former chairman of the CIMB Group and a significant figure in Malaysian finance, has been drawing public interest, particularly as he embarks on a new chapter with his second wife. Tracing his roots to a prominent family background, Nazir is the youngest offspring of Abdul Razak Hussein, the second Prime Minister of Malaysia, and the sibling to the sixth Prime Minister, Najib Razak.
Born on November 19, 1966, in Kuala Lumpur, Nazir was raised amidst the deep-seated political history of Malaysia. His father, Abdul Razak Hussein, was instrumental in the country’s developmental trajectory. Known as the “Father of Development”, he introduced the New Economic Policy to alleviate poverty and reduce ethnic inequality. A strong proponent of regional collaboration, Abdul Razak played a central role in the creation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1967. His life, however, was untimely cut short at the age of 53 due to leukemia while he was in London for medical treatment.
Nazir’s mother, Rahah Noah, comes from a politically significant lineage, being the daughter of Mohamed Noah Omar. Omar was the first Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat and a founding member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). Rahah, who became Abdul Razak’s second wife in 1962, gave birth to four sons, including Nazir. Her familial connections include Hussein Onn, Abdul Razak’s son from his first marriage, who later ascended to the position of the third Prime Minister of Malaysia.
In a recent shift of events, Nazir Razak remarried, following his divorce from Azlina Aziz, daughter of the former governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Abdul Aziz Taha. His new spouse, Yati Zainuddin, is a cosmetics founder with whom Nazir had maintained a professional connection for over two decades. The wedding ceremony was a private affair, attended by close family and friends. The news of their union came to light when a delightful picture of the couple was shared on Instagram by Nazir’s nephew, Norashman.
