Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has explained why he failed to attend Kamukunji Bunge la Mwananchi about the new health cover on Tuesday, December 3, 2024.
In a statement via his Instagram account on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, the youthful parliamentarian disclosed that he had this morning received a medical appeal from a young mother who was unable to pay her bills after giving birth.
He went on to say that in his observations, SHA is not solving the medical problems adding that that’s one of the reasons he refused to attend the Kamkunji.
“This is the reason I refused to attend Kamukunji of Bunge yesterday to be taught about sha shi Shifu Taifa care by cs health. This morning I have been texted by this young mother that they told her to register SHA with her hard-earned 8500 expecting her bill to be cleared by SHA. Only to be told that SHA is not operational and he couldn’t get back her money.
“I have made then the following observations!! SHA is about solving your medical problems. SHA is about collecting funds to be looted. People are never forced to do something good. SHA is a scam that will come to light very soon,” he explained.

Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa and other players in the sector appeared before the Kamukunji to enlighten members of parliament on progress made in the transition from the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
The public through their elected representatives had voiced concerns over the teething problems the implementation of the medical scheme was facing.
“MPs have raised concerns from the electorate regarding some of teething problems in the implementation of the programme,” Wetang’ula said.
Wetang’ula noted that Barasa requested to engage with MPs on various matters relating to the implementation of the programme.
