A recent court hearing on June 28th revealed allegations against Benjamin Mendy, a footballer for Manchester City. According to BBC, Mendy is accused of committing an act of assault against a young woman, who was 24 years old at the time, at his residence in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire, in October 2020. During the incident, Mendy made callous remarks.
Earlier this year, Mendy was acquitted of six charges of assault and one count of assault following a five-month trial at Chester Crown Court. However, he is currently facing a retrial this month on one charge related to alleged rape. The current trial at Chester Crown Court has Mendy, a footballer of French nationality, denying both charges. The jury, consisting of six women and six men, was informed by trial Judge Stephen Everett, the Recorder of Chester, that Mendy had been found not guilty of other offenses alleged by different women in a trial that concluded in January of this year.
According to reports, the woman involved in the recent case claimed that she had been invited to Mendy’s residence after a night out with friends at a bar in Alderley Edge, Cheshire. She alleges that Mendy took her phone, which contained private photos, and led her to his locked bedroom. As she requested the return of her phone, Mendy insisted on inspecting her and asked her to remove her clothes, to which she complied, except for her underwear.The woman further stated that Mendy threw her phone onto the bed and, as she reached to retrieve it, he approached her from behind and engaged in non-consensual intimate activity. It was during this encounter that Mendy reportedly made the insensitive comment about his previous intimate experiences.
The court was also informed that Mendy had been accused of attempting to rape another female guest at his home in 2018. In addition to the aforementioned charge, Mendy, now 28 years old, faces accusations of attempting to rape another woman, who was 29 years old at the time. The alleged incident occurred two years prior at his £4m mansion in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire. Currently standing trial at Chester Crown Court, Mendy vehemently denies both charges. The presiding judge, Stephen Everett, the Recorder of Chester, informed the jury, consisting of six women and six men, that Mendy was acquitted of previous sexual offense allegations made by other women in January of this year. Meanwhile, Manchester City has suspended Mendy since his initial charges were brought forth in August 2021. With his contract expiring at the end of June 2023, the club has officially announced that Mendy will not be retained.
